Abia LP Poised for Landslide Victory in 2027, Says State Chairman Azubuike
The Chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, Peter Azubuike, says the party is well positioned to secure a decisive victory in the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that it would emerge victorious if the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted elections today.
Addressing journalists at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia, Azubuike said the Labour Party had overcome its internal challenges and was fully prepared for the next electoral cycle.
He attributed the party’s confidence to what he described as its strong grassroots structure across the state, citing its current political representation as evidence of widespread public support.
According to him, the Labour Party controls all 17 Local Government Councils in the state, has 184 councillors, and 20 members in the Abia State House of Assembly, insisting that these achievements reflect the party’s dominance at the grassroots.
Azubuike also announced that the party adopted the direct primary system for the 2027 elections to promote transparency, strengthen internal democracy, and minimise disputes during candidate selection.
He dismissed reports that only one nomination form was purchased in some constituencies, describing the claims as false. He noted that several constituencies recorded multiple aspirants, adding that some incumbent lawmakers failed to secure the party’s ticket, citing the Osisioma/Obingwa/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency as an example.
The state chairman further stated that the party had continued to strengthen its structures from the ward level to the state level, expressing optimism that the ongoing mobilisation would translate into another successful outing in the 2027 general elections.
On the leadership of the party at the national level, Azubuike maintained that the Nenadi Usman-led faction remains the leadership recognised by INEC, adding that the party has already been granted access to the commission’s candidate upload portal.
He said the development underscores the legitimacy of the party’s leadership and its readiness for the 2027 polls, reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to internal democracy, grassroots mobilisation, and effective leadership.
