CityBoy Movement Abia Holds First Strategic Meeting, Begins Fresh Push for Grassroots Mobilisation

The Abia State Chapter of the CityBoy Movement has held its first strategic meeting at its permanent headquarters in Umuahia, with a renewed push to strengthen its grassroots structures and expand membership across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

The meeting, held at the Movement’s permanent headquarters at 20 BCA Road, Umuahia, brought together members of the State Executive Committee, Zonal Coordinators, as well as the 17 LGA Coordinators and their Assistant Coordinators.

The meeting was chaired by the State Director of the CityBoy Movement, Mayor Lucky Igbokwe.

Addressing participants, Igbokwe stressed the need for unity, discipline, teamwork and strict adherence to the established chain of command, as the Movement begins the implementation of resolutions from the National Directors’ Meeting and the recently concluded CityBoy Movement National Retreat.

According to him, the National Retreat produced far-reaching resolutions aimed at improving the organisational capacity and effectiveness of the Movement, particularly in the areas of organisational structure, due process, financial administration, membership mobilisation and grassroots engagement.

Igbokwe reiterated that the CityBoy Movement is an independent support movement established primarily to mobilise Nigerians for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

He, however, said the Movement’s activities would extend beyond the 2027 political cycle, as it seeks to promote what he described as progressive leadership and national development.

The State Director directed all 17 LGA Coordinators and their assistants to commence serious and sustained membership registration within their respective localities.

He said the strength of the Abia Chapter would be determined by verifiable membership registrations rather than estimated figures, urging coordinators to utilise the official CityBoy Movement mobile application for enrolment and verification.

LGA Offices to Be Established Across Abia
The State Director also directed all LGA Coordinators to immediately begin arrangements for securing suitable locations for official CityBoy Movement offices in their respective Local Government Areas.

He said the offices would serve as coordination centres for membership registration, meetings, grassroots mobilisation and other authorised activities of the Movement.

Igbokwe further disclosed that the State Executive Committee would soon embark on a statewide tour of all 17 Local Government Areas to inspect the proposed offices, meet with local leadership, assess mobilisation structures and review membership registration.

He therefore charged the LGA Coordinators to ensure that their respective offices are properly organised and ready ahead of the statewide inspection.

CityBoy Abia Set for Official Inauguration
The meeting was also informed that the National Directorate would soon conduct the official inauguration of the CityBoy Movement, Abia State Chapter.

Igbokwe described the forthcoming inauguration as a major milestone in consolidating the Movement’s structures in the state.

He called on all LGA Coordinators to intensify mobilisation to ensure strong participation and adequate representation from all 17 Local Government Areas.

The State Director said the date for the inauguration would be announced as soon as it is confirmed by the National Directorate, adding that preparations had already commenced for what he described as a well-organised and successful event.

He urged members to cooperate with the inauguration planning committee and ensure that the event demonstrates the unity, strength, organisational capacity and preparedness of the Movement in Abia.

CityBoy Announces Major Leadership Changes
The strategic meeting also featured leadership decisions, including the formal presentation of appointment and redeployment letters to affected officers.

Hon. Kanu Chiwendu was moved from State Treasurer to State Finance Director, while Hon. Okezie Clement Erondu was redeployed from Abia South Zonal Coordinator to State Treasurer.

The Movement also announced the suspension of Mr. Charles Ukeagu from the Abia State Chapter and his removal as State Organizing Secretary.

The State Leadership attributed the decision to concerns bordering on alleged gross inefficiency, insubordination, conduct considered inimical to constituted authority and activities allegedly creating division within the Movement.

Ukeagu’s position was subsequently filled in an acting capacity by Hon. Iheanyi Philip Okparaocha, who was appointed Acting State Organizing Secretary.
Other appointments announced include:
Mrs. Joy Maduka – State Contact and Mobilization Officer.
Mr. Godson Emenike – State Media and Communications Director.
Mrs. Chioma Okoronkwo – State Welfare and Logistics Officer.
Hon. Friday Dimiri – Abia South Zonal Coordinator.
The State Director congratulated the newly appointed and redeployed officers, charging them to demonstrate discipline, loyalty and commitment in the discharge of their responsibilities.

Former IGP Okiro Visits CityBoy Abia Headquarters
Earlier in the day, former Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Mbama Okiro, visited the CityBoy Movement’s Abia State headquarters.
During the visit, Okiro hoisted the Movement’s flag as part of his engagement with the State Chapter.
The strategic meeting ended with the Abia Chapter reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its grassroots structures across the state.
The State Leadership identified its immediate priorities as mass membership registration, establishment of functional LGA offices, preparation for the State Chapter inauguration, grassroots voter education, community engagement and sustained coordination across the 17 Local Government Areas.
Mayor Lucky Igbokwe again called for unity and teamwork, stressing that every leader and member has a role to play in building what he described as a strong, disciplined and effective CityBoy Movement in Abia State.
The Abia Chapter also reaffirmed its commitment to operating in line with directives from the National Directorate under the leadership of the Director General, Hon. Francis Shoga, and contributing to the national objectives of the CityBoy Movement.
