Former APGA Governorship Candidate Reagan Ufomba Defects to Labour Party, Merges Political Structure
Former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, has officially joined the Labour Party (LP), collapsing his political movement, the Change Abia Organisation, into the party.
Speaking during the reception ceremony held at the Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Secretariat in Okpuala Ngwa, Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, described Ufomba’s defection as a significant boost to the Labour Party and the state’s ongoing transformation agenda.
Governor Otti said the Labour Party is built on equity, inclusiveness and equal opportunities, stressing that there is no distinction between old and new members, as every member enjoys the same rights and privileges from the day they join.
He commended Ufomba for his commitment to the development of Abia State, noting that his decision to join the party reflects confidence in the administration’s performance and its delivery of campaign promises.
The governor also assured residents that the proposed Nsulu Airport project is progressing steadily, revealing that contracts for roads linking the airport to major parts of the state would soon be awarded. He explained that his administration spent its first year addressing inherited salary arrears, pensions and other obligations before embarking on major development projects.
In his remarks, Chief Reagan Ufomba described his defection as a defining moment in his political journey and pledged to contribute to the growth and progress of Abia State under the Labour Party. He disclosed that the Change Abia Organisation comprises 197 affiliate groups across the state, all of which have now aligned with the Labour Party.
According to him, the decision was motivated by the visible achievements of Governor Otti’s administration and the need to support a political movement focused on good governance and the welfare of the people.
Several dignitaries, including the member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Collins Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu, Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Hon. Matthew Ekwuribe, and the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North, Hon. Innocent Uruakpa, welcomed Ufomba into the party. They described the Otti administration as evidence that visionary leadership and commitment can deliver effective governance.
The event attracted government officials, party leaders, community stakeholders and supporters from across Abia State.
