The Labour Party in Abia State has recorded a significant political gain as scores of stakeholders and supporters defected to the party in Acha, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, in a move seen as strengthening its grassroots dominance.

A statement signed by Iroegbu Emenike, Publicity Secretary Labour Party, Abia, noted that the high-profile reception, led by Governor Alex Otti and represented by his deputy, Ikechukwu Emetu, alongside State Chairman Peter Azubuike and other party leaders, underscored the party’s consolidation drive in Abia North.

Addressing supporters at the residence of Chief Chris Ajah in Acha, Emetu described the Labour Party as a platform anchored on integrity, development, and measurable governance outcomes. He urged new members to actively contribute to strengthening the party’s structures, stressing that its growing popularity must be matched with sustained grassroots mobilization.

Azubuike, in his remarks, assured the defectors of inclusiveness and unity, emphasizing that the party remains open and equitable to all members. He described the new entrants as key grassroots leaders expected to drive the party’s expansion.
Also speaking, the lawmaker representing Isuikwuato State Constituency, Lucky Udoka Nweke Johnson, reaffirmed the area’s status as a Labour Party stronghold, pledging overwhelming support for the party in future elections.

In a symbolic gesture, the deputy governor presented the Labour Party flag to Chief Chris Ajah and Hon. Obinna Ekekwe, marking their formal defection. He recalled the party’s clean sweep in Abia North during the 2023 elections and expressed confidence of an even stronger outing in 2027.

Senior party figure, Kenneth Ahia, declared unwavering loyalty to Governor Otti, describing his administration as transformational and widely accepted across the state.

The defection wave, which includes several prominent community leaders, highlights the Labour Party’s growing influence in Abia State and reinforces its position as a major political force ahead of the next election cycle.
