NOA raises alarm over current dusty weather, says it’s not harmattan
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in collaboration with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has called on the General public in Nigeria to be cautious with the current dusty weather; it’s not harmattan, but an extreme form of air pollution harmful to health.
The statement noted that, the weather can reduce lungs function, cause respiratory infection, inflammation and Oxidative stress which may positively affect the human body’s balance.
The statement also added that, people should take the following precautionary measures like wearing of nose mask, drinking plenty of water, covering food and water to keep dust off, washing fruits thoroughly before eating, staying indoors as much as possible, using shea butter (ori) on your body and hair, especially before bed, Drinking warm water regularly, especially among the elderly, avoid the sun during hot afternoons, Do not eat cold food in the morning, especially for elderly, don’t use Air Conditioning or fans at night; wait until morning to avoid catching a cold, Keeping your chest warm until noon, Always wear a nose mask in public places, like motorcycles or in a public transport.
The Agency also noted that the situation may last for a while, so, they encouraged Nigerians to stay safe and share this information with others for protection of life at all levels.
