‘Don’t Reverse It’: Ukwa Groups Insist Nwogu’s Emergence Restores Equity After Two Decades, Urge APC to Reject Petitions
Three groups in Ukwa Federal Constituency have separately written to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, commending the party for what they described as the restoration of equity and fairness through the emergence of Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu as the APC candidate for the Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency.
The groups—the Asa Development Union (ADU), New Ukwa Progressive Initiative (NUPI), and Renewed Hope Ambassadors—argued that Nwogu’s emergence has corrected what they described as over two decades of political imbalance, noting that the House of Representatives seat had been occupied continuously by representatives from Ukwa East Local Government Area since 2007, leaving the Asa axis of Ukwa West without the opportunity to produce a representative.
According to the groups, the APC’s decision to field Nwogu from Ukwa West reflects the party’s commitment to justice, inclusiveness, internal democracy, and equitable power sharing within the constituency.
In its letter jointly signed by Elder Goodluck Nwanneakolam Nwuju, Sir Boniface U. Nwaigwe and Elder Ezedinachi Kanu as
President-General, Secretary-General and Chairman, Asa Think Tank Group respectively, the Asa Development Union submitted a detailed profile of Nwogu to the APC leadership, describing him as a grassroots politician and experienced administrator whose track record in public service makes him well-positioned to lead the party to victory in the 2027 general elections.
The union highlighted his previous service as Deputy Chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Transition Committee Chairman, Chairman of the Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC), Board Member of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and Commissioner for Environment in Abia State.

ADU further listed his achievements in infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, education, healthcare, scholarship schemes, rural electrification, and employment generation, urging the APC National Working Committee to disregard what it described as sponsored petitions by aggrieved aspirants seeking to overturn the outcome of the party’s primary.
Meanwhile, the New Ukwa Progressive Initiative (NUPI) praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee, and the Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodinma, for upholding the principle of equity in both the Ukwa Federal Constituency and Abia South Senatorial District.
The group disclosed that it had earlier appealed to the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives to allow the House of Representatives seat rotate to Ukwa West after about 20 consecutive years of representation by Ukwa East, describing Nwogu’s emergence as a fulfilment of that long-standing demand.

NUPI in statement signed by Dr. Akanwa E. Franklin and Felix, Chidubem Ambition as
National Chairman and National Secretary respectively, urged the APC leadership not to succumb to pressure or misinformation aimed at reversing the party’s decision, insisting that the outcome enjoys overwhelming support across the constituency.
In a related development, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors also applauded the APC leadership for restoring what it called a sense of belonging to the people of Ukwa West through Nwogu’s emergence.
The group maintained that the decision has been widely accepted across the constituency because it reflects the principles of justice, fairness, and inclusiveness while recognizing Nwogu’s record of public service and leadership.

The three groups reaffirmed their support for the APC leadership and appealed to the party to stand by the outcome of its primaries, insisting that preserving Nwogu’s candidacy would strengthen party unity and improve its electoral prospects in the 2027 general elections.
