Labour Party Tackles Abia APC, Says Otti Focused on Governance Not Political Anxiety
The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for what it described as the persistent attempt to drag Governor Alex Otti into the opposition party’s internal political anxieties and controversies.
In a press release signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the Labour Party reacted to a recent statement issued by the APC Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, concerning the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu.
The party said it would ordinarily not have responded to what it described as a “needless and panic-driven publication,” but noted that it became necessary to caution the APC against continuously using Governor Otti’s name to drive its political narratives.
According to the statement, the Abia State Government is not disturbed about whether Benjamin Kalu intends to contest the governorship in 2027 or return to the House of Representatives, stressing that Governor Otti remains fully focused on governance, rebuilding infrastructure, repositioning the economy, restoring confidence in public institutions, and improving the welfare of Abians.
The Labour Party expressed surprise that the APC continues to mention Governor Otti in virtually every political discussion, alleging that the governor’s performance has become the benchmark for governance in the state and a source of discomfort for the opposition.
The statement further noted that the party would not engage in debates over endorsements or political speculations allegedly manufactured by opposition figures seeking relevance and public attention.
It maintained that Governor Otti’s growing popularity within and outside Abia State is based on what it described as visible performance, prudent leadership, and the restoration of hope among the people.
The Labour Party therefore advised the APC to concentrate on rebuilding its structure, developing alternative policies, and addressing internal concerns instead of what it termed constant attempts to drag the governor into its political insecurities.
The party added that Abians are politically aware and can easily distinguish between propaganda and performance.
