PDP Faction Warns Aspirants Over “Wrong” Payments, Declares Readiness for 2027
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has warned aspirants who purchased party nomination forms from a rival group to demand refunds, alleging that the payments were made into a private account instead of the authentic national account of the party.
Addressing journalists in Umuahia, the factional State Caretaker Committee Chairman of the PDP, Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, stated that only payments made into the official PDP bank account would be recognised, stressing that any transaction into an individual’s account amounts to a scam.
Emeka-Yellow disclosed that the party had commenced the sale of Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that the PDP leadership crisis had been resolved following the recent Supreme Court judgment.
He maintained that the Kabiru Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee remains the authentic leadership of the party and reaffirmed that the PDP would field candidates for all elective positions in 2027.
The PDP chieftain, who was flanked by the State Organising Secretary, Chidindu Kalu, and former Commissioner for Housing, James Okpara, said the party was strictly adhering to its timetable.
Emeka-Yellow also dismissed claims by Abraham Amah regarding the authentic state chairmanship of the party, insisting that a 2024 High Court judgment nullified the congresses that produced delegates who elected him, a decision he said was upheld on appeal.
According to him, the national leadership subsequently constituted the current caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of the Abia chapter of the party.
He further refuted reports alleging the suspension of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Adolphus Wabara, describing the claims as false, ridiculous and mischievous.
He added that the alleged suspension was reversed by the national leadership and later quashed by a court of competent jurisdiction.
The factional chairman further announced that screening of aspirants would commence on Thursday this week, after which candidates may emerge through consensus or direct primaries in line with the Electoral Act.
He expressed confidence that the PDP in Abia State would make a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections.
