The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Abia State Council has directed all labour leaders in the state to mobilize their members and ensure total withdrawal of services both in the private and public sectors on Tuesday, 5th and Wednesday, 6th September, 2023.

A statement jointly signed by Comrades Pascal Nweke and Emma Alozie as Chairman and Secretary respectively of the Union noted that this directive to all Industrial Unions is in line with the directives of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, 31st August, 2023, where the congress leadership directed all her councils to proceed on sensitization and mobilization of all affiliate members for a 2-day nation wide warning strike on Tuesday, 5th and Wednesday, 6th September, 2023.

The statement went further to state that the strike action is to protest the removal of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) by the Federal Government and its failure to implement agreements reached with the organised labour towards mitigating the negative consequences therein.

It noted that all MDAs and LGAs are expected to be shut down adding that the monitoring team will move round to ensure total compliance.
