Breaking: Abia NLC suspends strike, directs workers to resume services

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Abia State Council has suspended the strike it embarked upon on the 9th of May, 2023 as it directed all Abia workers to resume all services hitherto withdrawn with immediate effect

Recall that on the 9th of May 2023, Labour in Abia downed tools over what it described as Government’s inability to pay salaries to workers, non payment of pension arrears and gratuity and check-off dues to industrial unions.


A statement signed by Comrades Nweke Pascal Iheme and Emma Alozie as NLC Chairman and Secretary respectively in Abia said the decision was reached at an emergency meeting of its State Executive Council (SEC) held Saturday 27″ May, 2023 adding that the SEC-in-session also noted the intervention efforts of well-meaning Nigerians and Abians both within and outside government and the progress made so far through the strike action.


The statement stated that also deliberated was the promises of the in-coming governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti on the contending issues that led to the strike hence the resolution to suspend the strike.


It noted that as a law-abiding organization and in recognition of the efforts of well-meaning Abians and in consultation with the National Headquarters of Congress, SEC-in-Session resolved to suspend the strike and consequently, directed all Abia workers to resume all services hitherto withdrawn with immediate effect.
