Emma Nwaka Backs Otti, Tinubu for Re-election Ahead of 2027 Polls

Says Abia Governor Deserves Second Term, Urges Support for APC President

Former Third Republic Senator, Emma Nwaka, has thrown his weight behind the re-election bids of Alex Otti and Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing their performance in office as justification for a second term.

In a statement titled “This Is My Stand,” Nwaka said he was compelled to publicly declare his political position following repeated enquiries from supporters and associates who were concerned about his recent participation in events organized by the Labour Party in Abia State despite being a member of the APC.

The former senator stated that while he agrees with his party’s position that the governorship should remain in Abia Central Senatorial District in 2027, he believes Governor Otti should be allowed to complete a second term because of what he described as unprecedented infrastructural development and renewed pride among Abians under the current administration.

Nwaka particularly praised Otti’s impact on Isuikwuato Local Government Area, noting that the administration had delivered more development projects and appointments to the area than any previous government since the creation of Abia State.

According to him, supporting Otti’s re-election aligns with both the interests of Isuikwuato people and the principles of the state’s Charter of Equity. He argued that denying the governor a second term could delay the expected return of power to Abia North, particularly the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi axis, by as much as twelve years.

The APC chieftain also dismissed speculation about any personal governorship ambition in 2031, insisting that his position was driven solely by the desire to protect the political interests of Abia North. He, however, encouraged potential aspirants from the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi area to begin building alliances and positioning themselves ahead of the next power shift.

At the national level, Nwaka declared his support for President Tinubu’s re-election, describing the president’s economic reforms as bold and necessary. He argued that the administration inherited a struggling economy and has since taken difficult decisions aimed at restoring stability and growth.

The former senator cited the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates as key reforms that have strengthened public finances and created a more predictable business environment for investors.

While acknowledging that no government is perfect, Nwaka urged Nigerians to embrace constructive criticism rather than outright condemnation of government policies, stressing that governance remains a continuous process of adjustment and improvement.

He called on citizens to support policies they believe can move the country forward while offering practical alternatives where necessary.
