Senator Austin Akobundu has congratulated former member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, on his formal inauguration as President of GLOBE Legislators at the UK Parliament, describing the appointment as a testament to his outstanding legislative achievements and unwavering commitment to climate action.

In a congratulatory message, Senator Akobundu described Onuigbo as an icon of legislative excellence whose impressive record in lawmaking continues to earn him international recognition.

He noted that Onuigbo’s emergence as President of the global parliamentary network not only honours him personally but also elevates Nigeria’s profile on the international stage, particularly in the global campaign against climate change and the pursuit of sustainable development.

According to the senator, Onuigbo’s appointment demonstrates that merit, competence, and visionary leadership remain the defining qualities for global leadership roles. He praised the former lawmaker as an astute administrator and a leading advocate for climate action, whose contributions continue to shape environmental policy beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Speaking on behalf of his family and the people of Abia Central Senatorial District, Akobundu extended his heartfelt congratulations to the new GLOBE Legislators President and pledged his support towards the realization of the organization’s vision of advancing climate action through effective legislation and parliamentary oversight.

GLOBE Legislators, formerly known as GLOBE International, is a non-partisan, cross-party network of parliamentarians from more than 80 countries committed to promoting climate action and sustainable development by translating international environmental commitments into national legislation and effective oversight.

Established in 1989 by global leaders, including former United States Vice President Al Gore and Senator John Kerry, the organization continues to play a leading role in advancing legislative solutions to global environmental challenges.
