Onuigbo Mourns Abia-Born Air Force Pilot, Squadron Leader Ahamefule, Others Killed in NAF Crash
President of GLOBE Legislators International and former Member of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sam Onuigbo, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Abia-born Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje, one of the pilots of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft, NAF 931, which crashed in Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Onuigbo, in a condolence message made available to dailytrailnews.com, described the death of Squadron Leader Ahamefule as a painful loss to his family, Abia State, the Nigerian Air Force and the nation.
He said the tragedy was particularly heartbreaking given the courage, dedication and sacrifices routinely made by members of the Armed Forces in the service of Nigeria.
The former lawmaker also expressed particular sympathy for the pilot’s wife, who, according to reports, had only been married to Squadron Leader Ahamefule about two weeks before the tragic incident.
Onuigbo commiserated with the now-widowed wife, describing the circumstances surrounding the loss as especially painful and devastating, coming so shortly after the couple began their marital journey.
He prayed that God would grant her the strength, comfort and fortitude to bear the loss of her husband at such a difficult time.
According to him, the death of the Abia-born officer is a painful reminder of the risks military personnel face while carrying out their duties and serving the nation.
Onuigbo extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and loved ones of Squadron Leader Ahamefule, while praying that God would grant them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He also condoled with the families and loved ones of all the other Nigerian Air Force personnel who died in the crash, saying their deaths represent a profound loss to their families, the Armed Forces and Nigeria.
The GLOBE Legislators International President commended the men and women of the Nigerian Air Force and other branches of the Armed Forces for their continued commitment to national service, noting that the sacrifices of personnel who lose their lives in the line of duty must never be forgotten.
Onuigbo prayed for the eternal repose of the souls of Squadron Leader Ahamefule Aham Man-Ugwueje and all the other victims of the NAF 931 crash, while asking God to comfort their families, particularly the pilot’s young widow, as well as their colleagues and the entire Nigerian Air Force at this difficult time.
He urged Nigerians to remember the fallen personnel for their service to the nation and to continue to pray for their families as they mourn their loved ones.
