August Meeting Presents Opportunity for Unity, Community Development – Onuigbo
As women in South East Nigeria gather in their various communities for their annual August conference, a call has gone to them to embrace unity in order to achieve their desired targets.
A-two-time member of the House of Representatives and the incumbent member representing South East on the Board of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, Rt Hon Sam Onuigbo, made the call while speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the Women August conference of Ibere clan in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
Onuigbo, a prominent son of the clan, whose developmental strides in the clan bestowed on him the traditional title of Odozi Obodo, challenged the women to work together as a team for the development of the area, pointing out that no community can attain progress in the absence of unity, and that working in unity will not only attract development projects but also provide the needed grassroots support for Government at all levels.

In his remarks, the Deputy Mayor Ikwuano Local Government, Hon Lucky Awuwa applauded the women for their vital role in nurturing families, preserving traditions, and driving community growth and encouraged them to remain steadfast, united, and visionary.

He further appealed for their support to the current administration of Dr. Alex Otti, arguing that such collective support and cooperation will accelerate the development and transformation of the Community.
In his presentation, the president General, Ibere clan development Union, Federated, Pharm (Chief) Mezie Uzuegbu noted that the absence of the Women’s wing for a long time has impacted negatively on the community’s development and urged them to reclaim their space by making their voices heard while working with their male counterparts for the good of the people.
In her address, the President Ibere clan development Union Federated, Women’s wing, Mrs Chioma Ibelachi who disclosed that their three months leadership has visited more than ten villages so far, named projects they intend executing to include, procurement of educational materials for schools, re-roofing of Ahia Ibere as well as construction of a civic hall and solicited the cooperation of all.
While challenging them to be good Ambassadors and always seek peace, Mrs Ibelachi charged them shun acts capable of depriving them of being role models to their children.
Dailytrailnews reports that ICDU Federated , Publicity Secretary, Comrade Cokey Nwachukwu, while giving a report of the event stated that some of the special segments of the programme were a colourful march-past by women representing almost all fourteen villages of Ibere Clan dressed in different uniforms; Talk Show on Health by the Department of Health, Ikwuano LGA; recitations and drama; and cultural dances by women from various communities.
Pastor Dame Princess Chinyere Onuigbo, President of Obuohia Development Union Women’s Wing and wife of the Special Guest of Honour, Honourable Sir Samuel Ifeanyichukwu Onuigbo, took the salute during the march-past. She was joined by Mrs Nnenna Anthony Nwaubani, Chairperson of Ikwuano Local Government Area, and Mrs Lucky Awuwa, the Deputy Chairperson, and Mr Chukwuemeka Mpamugo (Chairman of the Occasion)
The event drew a remarkable assembly of Ibere sons, daughters, Dignatries, and well-wishers. Among the distinguished dignitaries were Honourable Osinachi Nwaka – former Transition Committee Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government and currently Director General of the Ministry of Finance Incorporated, Abia State, Councillors representing Ibere Clan at the Ikwuano Legislative Council, ICDU Federated Exco’s and PG’s of Autonomous Communities in Ibere Clan, the clergy led by Apostle Echewodo, business tycoons, the Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs led by HRM Eze Prof. Samuel Ifenwata and her Ugoeze,Ezinne Katherine Ifenwanta ( Grand Patron and Matron Ibere Clan).
