For Ndi Umunneochi, Otti Didn’t Come to Campaign, But to Receive His Blessings
Ferdinand Ekeoma Writes
Yesterday, Umunneochi spoke with one voice. From Isuochi to Nneato, from Umuchieze to Mbala, from Ngodo to Lokpanta, the people poured out in their thousands — men, women, youths, traditional rulers, clergy, farmers, traders, students — to welcome their Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.
It was not a rented crowd. It was not politics as usual. It was gratitude in its purest form. It was appreciation expressed with unspeakable joy.
For decades, Umunneochi was defined by abandonment and fear. Roads that were impassable. A border axis that became a theatre of kidnapping and bloodshed. Health centres that were mere shells. Today, the story has changed.
They came out because they now have roads.
The 11.27km Mbala – Umuaku – Ngodo Road, the flagship that connects their agrarian heartland — their cashew, cassava, yam and black beans belt — is now a reality, built with carriageway, shoulders, culverts, drainage and streetlights. For farmers who carried produce on their heads for kilometres, this road is wealth.
They came out because Umualom Road built through GODA has opened up their communities, and the Umuelem – Ngada Road has reconnected kith and kin.
They came out because they can now sleep with both eyes closed. Their Governor’s onslaught against criminals yielded the desired result.
Umunneochi was once a no-go area. Today, through “Operation Crush”, Governor Otti crushed the criminals tormented the people and restored peace to their forests and highways. Our brothers and sisters from the area who fled have returned. Markets are back. Security is neither a promise nor a campaign slogan — it is a lived experience.
The people of Umunneochi came out because health has come to their doorstep.
Twelve out of 19 Primary Healthcare Centres have been upgraded, equipped and are already working. Where there was no paracetamol, there is now a doctor, drugs and determination to care. And the people have been told a brand new General Hospital is approved and on the way. They will get it, because Otti’s promise is bankable.
They came out because hope for tomorrow is secured.
Yesterday, they heard again that the 57-year-old dream — the Mmam Bridge that links Abia to Enugu — has been captured in the 2026 budget and will be built. That Ngodo-Lomara and Leru-Lekwesi-Lokpanta-Lokpaukwu Roads have been earmarked for construction. That the Electric Bus Green Shuttle with 20 new buses will soon run Umuahia-Umunneochi and Umuahia-Okigwe-Uturu-ABSU routes. That Umunneochi has been chosen for a multi-billion Naira Agro-Industrial Processing Facility for local and export markets. That their children are beneficiaries of free education.
These are not stories on paper. These are not audio promises. These are verifiable interventions touching real lives and giving the people joy.
That was why they trooped out yesterday with joy and happiness to welcome their Governor. That was why they sang and danced. That was why they spoke loudly with one voice and said, “Otti is our own, and we will stand with him again so that he can return as our Governor to continue the wild-fire-like transformation going on in Abia.
In Umunneochi yesterday, the people didn’t receive a politician who came to campaign, because the campaign is being done by roads, by hospitals, by security, and by dignity restored. They received a beloved statesman who came to receive the blessings that would enable him sustain the momentum of transformation happening in Abia State.
Help is here. And Umunneochi has seen it.
