Abia Government to Celebrate Former Chief of General Staff, Ebitu Ukiwe’s 86th Birthday — Otti

• Abia Governor, Alex Otti, has celebrated former Chief of General Staff, Commodore Ebitu Okoh Ukiwe, describing him as a distinguished statesman and a symbol of integrity, as he marks his 86th birthday.

Governor Otti, in a goodwill message issued on October 26, praised the elder statesman for his exemplary character, commitment to principles and outstanding contributions to Nigeria’s political development.

The Governor in the message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, disclosed that the Abia State Government would organise celebrations in honour of the elder statesman’s 86th birthday, in recognition of his service to the nation and humanity.

He described Commodore Ukiwe, who holds the traditional title of Ochiagha, as a national icon and a source of pride to Abia State, noting that his life and service remain worthy examples for politicians and public office holders.

Otti particularly recalled Ukiwe’s decision to resign from his position as Chief of General Staff, then the country’s number two political office, rather than compromise his principles and reputation.

He also acknowledged the former military officer’s role in the struggle for the restoration of democracy, including his association with the National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, which campaigned for the actualisation of the June 12, 1993 presidential election victory of the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola.

The Abia Governor called on the nation to accord Ukiwe the recognition he deserves for his contributions to national peace and democratic restoration.

Governor Otti, on behalf of his family, the government and people of Abia State, congratulated Commodore Ukiwe and prayed for God’s continued blessings, good health and many more years of life.
