Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has formally flagged off the Labour Party’s campaign for the February 6, 2027 governorship election, calling on political parties to embrace peaceful, issue-based campaigns and avoid personal attacks.
The event, held on Sunday, November 1, at the Umuahia Township Stadium, also featured the inauguration of a Labour Party Advisory Council chaired by former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu.
Governor Otti, who is seeking re-election alongside his Deputy, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, said the council would provide strategic guidance for the party’s governorship campaign and other candidates contesting elective positions across the state.
Addressing party supporters, the Governor solicited another four-year mandate, saying his administration intends to consolidate the development gains recorded in infrastructure, public service and other sectors over the last three years.
He said a fresh mandate would enable his government to deepen ongoing reforms, strengthen public institutions and position Abia to take advantage of emerging economic opportunities.
Governor Otti also challenged opposition parties to present credible alternatives and focus their campaigns on policy issues, insisting that political competition should not degenerate into intimidation or violence.
He reiterated his directive that opposition parties must not be denied access to public facilities, including the Umuahia Township Stadium, provided they obtain the necessary approvals and meet applicable requirements.
The Governor warned that anyone attempting to disrupt the legitimate political activities of any party would face the appropriate security response, stressing that he had not authorised anyone to attack or obstruct opposition members.
On his administration’s performance, Otti cited improvements in infrastructure and public service delivery, while referencing rankings by governance assessment institutions, which he said placed Abia favourably in citizens’ satisfaction and fiscal performance.

Speaking on behalf of the Labour Party National Working Committee, Deputy National Chairman, Hon. Salisu Nuhu Mohammed, who represented National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, commended the Governor’s performance and expressed confidence in the party’s campaign.
In separate goodwill messages, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, House of Representatives member, Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, and Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, pledged support for the party’s mobilisation efforts across the state.
Popular Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwo, also called on Abians to support the Governor’s re-election bid, while the newly inaugurated Advisory Council Chairman, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, assured that members would work towards the success of all Labour Party candidates.
Earlier, during a church service preceding the campaign flag-off, Founder of Living Word Ministries, Bro. Emma Okorie, emphasised the importance of visionary leadership and commended the Governor’s administration.
The ceremony attracted party leaders, political office holders, religious leaders and other supporters, and featured prayers for the Governor.
