‘We Are Ready to Return to Government House,’ Anosike Declares as PDP Picks Amah Abraham

UMUAHIA — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim power in the state, declaring that the PDP is fully repositioned and united for victory.

Speaking during a press briefing at the party secretariat in Umuahia on Thursday, Anosike said the party had deliberately embarked on strategic preparations ahead of the governorship campaign, insisting that “victory is the only thing before us.”

He formally unveiled the Abia PDP State Chairman, Hon. Amah Abraham, as his running mate, describing the choice as strategic, deliberate and aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in the election.

According to Anosike, Abraham emerged after extensive consultations with party leaders and careful consideration of competence, loyalty, administrative experience and commitment to the party.
He said the party initially considered selecting a deputy from outside its ranks but opted for a long-serving party member to avoid possible legal complications arising from recent amendments to the Electoral Act.

Anosike praised Abraham for remaining loyal to the PDP during difficult times, saying he helped rebuild and sustain the party when many members defected.

The governorship candidate disclosed that the party had begun renovating its campaign headquarters in Umuahia ahead of the official commencement of campaigns, adding that support groups across the state, particularly in Aba, had continued to endorse the PDP’s governorship bid.

He also criticised the administration of Governor Alex Otti, alleging that while infrastructure projects had received attention, the welfare of citizens had been neglected.

Anosike promised that a PDP administration would prioritise both infrastructure development and human capital, with emphasis on workers’ welfare, pension payments, youth empowerment, agriculture, healthcare, education and security.

He pledged to clear outstanding salary arrears and other entitlements owed to workers and pensioners if elected, stressing that governance should be centred on improving the lives of citizens.

Responding after his unveiling, the PDP deputy governorship candidate, Hon. Amah Abraham, said he accepted the nomination as a call to service and pledged to deploy his three decades of political experience to support Anosike in delivering a people-centred government.

Abraham said his emergence was the decision of the party leadership and not one he anticipated, noting that he had always prepared himself for greater responsibilities through years of active participation in politics and public service.

The former lawmaker and state party chairman said he had worked with several governors and political leaders over the years, giving him firsthand knowledge of the strengths and shortcomings of previous administrations.

He expressed confidence in Anosike’s leadership, describing the governorship candidate as well-prepared to govern Abia and promising to provide the necessary support to ensure the success of a PDP administration.

According to Abraham, his experience in party administration and governance would be valuable in helping the party implement policies on economic development, agriculture, security and social welfare.

He urged party members to remain united ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing optimism that the PDP would return to Government House with a team focused on improving the lives of Abians.

Anosike, in his closing remarks, also called on party faithful to close ranks, insisting there would be “no victor and no vanquished” within the PDP. He said the party’s campaign would be anchored on service, welfare and progress, expressing confidence that the PDP would emerge victorious in the 2027 governorship election.
