The governorship aspiration of Deacon (Dr.) Kelechi Anosike, PhD (Law), received another major boost as stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Umuahia North Local Government Area reportedly adopted him as their sole governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections.

The adoption took place during Anosike’s ongoing consultation tour across the 17 local government areas of Abia State, where he has continued to engage party stakeholders, delegates, ward executives, youths, women groups, and grassroots mobilizers on his vision for the state.

Political observers say the growing endorsements trailing his consultations across Abia North, Abia Central, and Abia South are gradually reshaping political conversations within the PDP, with increasing calls for the party to avoid repeating what many members describe as the costly political mistake of 2023 by rallying behind a candidate with broad acceptability and statewide appeal.

At the Umuahia North stakeholders’ meeting, Anosike reeled out key components of his governance blueprint, including his PensionPlus welfare package for retirees, youth empowerment and employment programmes, industrialisation plans, civil service reforms, ICT-driven education agenda, healthcare improvements, infrastructure expansion strategy, and his widely discussed agricultural initiative, “Operation Feed Abia (OFA).”

He assured party faithful that his administration, if elected, would focus on welfare, service delivery, economic revival, accountability, and people-oriented governance aimed at repositioning Abia State for sustainable growth and development.

Following his presentation, party stakeholders in the area unanimously endorsed his aspiration and adopted him as the sole governorship candidate for Umuahia North LGA.

The motion for his adoption was moved by Deacon Charles Nwaobiara, Chairman of Urban Ward 3, and seconded by Ejikem Elekwachi, Chairman of Ibeku East Ward 1, amid loud applause and overwhelming support from party members at the gathering.

Stakeholders at the meeting described Anosike as a credible, accessible, and visionary leader with the capacity to unite the party and lead it back to victory in 2027.

The endorsement in Umuahia North is coming amid growing momentum surrounding Anosike’s governorship bid across the three Senatorial Zones of the state.

In Abia North, particularly during his visit to Ohafia, the PDP governorship hopeful was warmly received by stakeholders, party leaders, and grassroots mobilizers who expressed confidence in his leadership capacity and assured him of their full support.

Leaders at the Ohafia gathering reportedly stated that Anosike possesses the political experience, administrative clarity, and grassroots connection needed to reposition both the PDP and Abia State for greater progress.

Similarly, consultations in other parts of the state have continued to attract massive support, with party faithful across several LGAs openly declaring their readiness to mobilize for his emergence as the PDP governorship flagbearer.

Many stakeholders including Barrister Ukpai Ukairo, Chief Jude Udeachara, Hon. John Mark and a PDP House of Assembly Aspirant for Umunneochi State Constituency, Ifeoma Chukwu amongst others, insisted that the party must learn from the outcome of the 2023 election and avoid internal decisions that could weaken its chances in 2027.

According to party insiders, the increasing endorsements for Anosike are being driven by the belief that he combines credibility, competence, acceptability, and practical governance ideas capable of reconnecting the PDP with the grassroots.

His slogan, “Anosike ga eme karia” (Anosike will do better), has also continued to gain traction across communities and political gatherings, reflecting what observers describe as growing public enthusiasm around his aspiration.

Beyond the PDP, political analysts say Anosike’s rising profile is beginning to attract interest from opposition political blocs, with reports of possible alliances and coalition talks already emerging ahead of the 2027 elections.

With endorsements continuing to spread across the Senatorial Zones and growing grassroots momentum trailing his consultations across the 17 LGAs, many political watchers now believe that Dr. Kelechi Anosike has become one of the major political figures to watch in Abia’s 2027 governorship race.
