The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has presented its third governorship aspirant, Chief Kelechi Anosike, to party delegates ahead of the party’s governorship primary election for the 2027 polls.
The presentation took place at the party secretariat during a gathering of delegates and stakeholders, where the Ohuhu-born legal practitioner and United Kingdom-based solicitor formally declared his intention to contest the governorship seat under the platform of the PDP.

Presenting the aspirant, the State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Abraham Amah, confirmed that Anosike became the third aspirant to officially join the party’s governorship race after fulfilling all constitutional and legal requirements of the party.

Amah stated that although the PDP may have made mistakes in the past, the party has now repositioned itself and is determined to correct its errors ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He further disclosed that the party had successfully overcome several legal battles at the Federal High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, stressing that the PDP remained united under its national leadership.

According to him, individuals who attempted to create parallel structures had exited the party, adding that the PDP had fully regained control of its structure and was prepared for future elections.

Speaking shortly after his presentation, Kelechi Anosike pledged to rebuild Abia State through what he described as holistic development, youth empowerment, civil service reforms and economic revitalization.
The governorship hopeful declared that his ambition was beyond politics, emphasizing that his mission was to build Abia State and improve the lives of the people.

He promised to prioritize agriculture and food production, stating that no Abian should go to bed hungry under his administration.
According to him, the state must return to farming and create opportunities that would enable families to feed themselves and improve their living standards.

Anosike, who hails from Ohuhu in Umuahia North Local Government Area, revealed that he began his educational journey in Okoko Item, Bende Local Government Area, his mother’s hometown, before studying Law at the Abia State University.

He explained that he later relocated to the United Kingdom where he obtained a Master’s degree in Petroleum Law and Policy as well as a PhD in Property Law and Mortgages.

The legal practitioner added that he specialized in energy, petroleum, gas and property law and later qualified as a solicitor in the United Kingdom after being called to the Nigerian Bar.

Highlighting his professional achievements, Anosike said his law firm had grown into one of the leading firms in Africa within its area of specialization, noting that the firm had managed complex systems, revived struggling businesses and served as legal adviser and company secretary to several organizations.

He described himself as a wealth creator capable of identifying economic opportunities and expressed confidence in his ability to attract development and prosperity to Abia State.

The PDP aspirant also criticized what he described as excessive concentration on road construction by the current administration, arguing that governance should focus on all sectors of development.

According to him, healthcare, agriculture, security, workers’ welfare and youth development deserve equal attention alongside infrastructure.

Anosike further lamented the high cost of living in Abia State, describing the state as one of the most expensive places to live in Nigeria.

He blamed the situation on poor circulation of money within the economy and promised to revive economic activities through deliberate financial and development policies aimed at improving the living conditions of residents.

On workers’ welfare, the governorship aspirant promised to introduce policies that would improve the wellbeing of civil servants and pensioners.

He announced plans to establish a “Civil Service Care” initiative that would provide subsidized healthcare for workers, with the government covering 70 percent of medical expenses while workers would pay the remaining 30 percent.

Anosike also unveiled plans for a “Pension Plus” programme and assured civil servants and retirees that their welfare would receive priority attention under his administration.

Speaking on youth empowerment, he criticized the practice of limiting empowerment programmes to the distribution of motorcycles and tricycles, insisting that modern empowerment should focus on technology, digital innovation and global opportunities.

He pledged to create ICT-driven empowerment programmes that would equip young people with digital skills capable of enabling them to work remotely for foreign companies and earn in foreign currencies.

Drawing comparisons with Kenya, Anosike said Abia State must embrace global digital opportunities in order to prepare its youths for the future economy.

The governorship hopeful equally expressed concern over the condition of the judiciary in the state, alleging that judicial workers had remained on strike over unpaid salaries while some innocent citizens were still being held in correctional centres without trial.
