Abia 2027: Anosike’s Governorship Aspiration Gains Fresh Boost as Abia South PDP Leaders Endorse Him
The governorship ambition of frontline Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant, Dr. Kelechi Anosike, received a major boost on Friday following his endorsement by stakeholders from Abia South Senatorial Zone ahead of the party’s governorship primaries scheduled for Sunday, May 24, 2026.
The endorsement was made during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the PDP office in Obingwa, where party leaders and faithful expressed confidence in Anosike’s capacity to reposition the party and mount a strong challenge in the 2027 governorship election.
Political observers say the growing support for Anosike has injected fresh momentum into the Abia PDP, a party many believed lost steam after the 2023 general elections. His ongoing consultations across the state and engagement with party structures are said to have revived supporters’ confidence, with many openly pledging support for his emergence as the party’s standard bearer.
Stakeholders from the six local government areas of Abia South unanimously described Dr. Anosike as a credible and competent leader with the vision and experience needed to reposition the state.
Among party leaders present at the meeting were the Zonal Chairman, Enyinnaya Appolos; Deputy State Chairman, Chief Chinenye Onuoha; South East official, Chief Augustine Enyioko; Chairman of Chairmen for Aba North and Aba South, Hon. Cyril Okoro; and Chief Nathaniel Akwara. Others included Barrister Frank Nnaoma, Chief Emeka Egwim, Chief Emeka Kalu, Ben Nwachi, ward chairmen, secretaries, and women leaders across the zone.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anosike described Abia South as politically critical to the PDP’s success in future elections, noting that the zone remains central to his consultations across the state.

He urged party faithful to rally behind his aspiration, presenting himself as the candidate best positioned to restore the fortunes of the PDP and deliver quality governance to the people of Abia State.
The governorship hopeful also criticized what he termed poor governance in the state and pledged to introduce people-focused policies aimed at improving the welfare and living standards of residents if elected governor.
In a move that drew applause from party members, Dr. Anosike donated funds for the purchase of at least five industrial fans and a large generator set for the Obingwa PDP office.
The highpoint of the meeting was the public endorsement of Dr. Anosike as the preferred governorship candidate of Abia South stakeholders, with the zone assuring him of total support and 100 per cent votes during the PDP governorship primaries.
Speaking briefly at the meeting, Abia PDP State Chairman, Chief Amah Abraham, called on party members to unite behind the party’s strongest and most electable candidate ahead of the governorship election.
He stressed the importance of unity within the PDP, noting that decisions taken by stakeholders at this critical period would significantly shape the future of the party in Abia State.
