Eric Opah Declares Alternative Vision for Abia, Seeks Faster Development, Improved Welfare for Abians
Chief Eric Opah has said his decision to offer an alternative political direction for Abia State is driven by the need for greater performance, accelerated development, and improved welfare for the people.
In a statement, Opah maintained that politics and governance should not be driven by bitterness or hatred, stressing that leadership must always be evaluated based on the realities confronting the people at any given time.
He noted that his camp had, at different times, acknowledged and commended the visible efforts of the present administration where necessary, explaining that responsible opposition must remain objective and truthful. According to him, recognizing good actions should not be interpreted as permanent political endorsement.
The Abia political figure, however, argued that governance should be measured not by intentions or public narratives, but by the direct impact on the lives of citizens. He stated that Abians now expect faster development, improved living conditions, modern infrastructure, economic growth, and inclusive governance that reflects the vast resources available to the state.
Opah explained that the decision to present an alternative vision was not motivated by personal grievances or malice against anyone, but by the conviction that Abia State has the capacity to perform better and compete favourably with leading states across Nigeria.
According to him, governance in the state must progress beyond stabilization to full transformation, adding that while some achievements of the current administration are visible, they fall short of the expectations and possibilities before the state.
He further emphasized the need for improved welfare and salaries for workers, increased opportunities for young people, better roads, quality healthcare, enhanced security, and stronger economic empowerment for communities. He also stressed the importance of creating a more competitive business environment capable of attracting investors.
Opah described the movement as one focused on lifting the state to greater heights rather than attacking individuals, assuring that his campaign would remain issue-based and solution-driven.
He reaffirmed his commitment to presenting practical ideas and realistic policies aimed at uniting the state, accelerating development, and improving the lives of all Abians.
Chief Opah concluded by expressing confidence that a better Abia is achievable through collective effort.
