Current Wage in Abia Shameful Compared to Neighbouring States, New PDP Will Pay Abia Workers N120,000 Minimum Wage After Tax — JOK

Real Governance Is Coming — JOK Tells Abians

A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, has declared that the least-paid worker in Abia State will earn N120,000 monthly after tax when the party returns to power in 2027.

Kalu, a former Commissioner for Information in the state, described the current minimum wage in Abia as an embarrassment considering the volume of resources available to the government.

He said a new PDP-led administration would prioritize workers’ welfare, promotions, and prompt payment of allowances.

The former commissioner lamented that while neighbouring South-East states such as Imo State and Ebonyi State reportedly pay workers N104,000 and N90,000 respectively, Abia still struggles with N70,000.
According to him, the disparity reflects poor financial management and diversion of public funds.

He alleged that funds meant for development and workers’ welfare were being looted, promising that a PDP government would block leakages and restore accountability.

Kalu also condemned the forfeiture of pensions and gratuities owed retirees, describing the development as unfortunate.
He pledged that if elected, the PDP would clear outstanding pension obligations within the first 100 days in office.

He further promised the restoration of free home care services for elderly residents across Abia State.

Kalu urged residents to remain hopeful and steadfast, insisting that a new era of responsible governance was on the horizon.
He said the people of Abia deserve better leadership capable of ending hardship and redirecting resources toward meaningful development.
