2027: Onuigbo Declares for Abia Central Senatorial Zone, with Bold Track Record and Reform Agenda
Former member of the House of Representatives for Ikwuano Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency Rep. Sam Onuigbo, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Abia Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration, which drew party leaders, stakeholders, and supporters from across the district, took place on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Odoziobodo Hills, Obuohia Obi Ibere in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.
Speaking during the declaration, Onuigbo dismissed what he described as “political noise,” insisting that true leadership must be defined by tangible impact and service to the people.
The APC chieftain spotlighted his intervention at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, where he played a key role in restoring previously delisted academic programmes—an effort he said revived confidence and boosted investment in the institution.
Onuigbo further rolled out a catalogue of projects and achievements, including the facilitating of the reconstruction of the Umuahia Ikwuano Ikot Epkene federal road through legislative efforts in 2019, expansion of classroom infrastructure in his community, facilitation of a secondary school in partnership with the United States Ambassador, advocacy for the establishment of a Federal Secretariat in Abia State, and active involvement in erosion control initiatives across vulnerable communities.
Tracing his political journey from 2010 as Special Adviser to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, through his roles as Commissioner for Lands and Survey and later Commissioner for Finance in Abia State, Onuigbo said his career has been anchored on measurable service and results.
He urged voters in Abia Central to prioritize competence and integrity over sentiment, warning against inducement politics.
