The All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Abia South, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has attributed his landslide victory in the party’s senatorial primary election to massive grassroots support and the confidence the people have in his leadership.

Speaking during an interview on Arise TV after the conclusion of the APC primaries nationwide, monitored by Dailytrailnews, Erondu Jnr said the overwhelming margin recorded in the election reflected his close relationship with the people and his accessibility to constituents across Abia South.

The lawmaker, who currently represents Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, defeated notable contenders including Paul Ikonne, Nyerere Chinenye Anyim and Blessing Nwagba in the keenly contested primary election.

Announcing the result, the Chairman of the APC Primary Election Panel, Erasmus Cishark, declared that Erondu Jnr polled 15,982 votes to emerge victorious, while his closest rival secured 4,556 votes.

Reacting to the outcome, Erondu Jnr said the victory belonged to the people of Abia South who freely expressed their mandate through the direct primary process adopted by the party.

“The margin clearly shows the people’s confidence in my leadership and accessibility. It is about being close to the people and understanding their needs,” he stated.

The former Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area also praised the conduct of the APC primaries across the country, describing the exercise as transparent, credible and largely peaceful despite isolated grievances from some aspirants.

According to him, election contests naturally produce mixed reactions, especially among candidates who invested heavily in their campaigns, but stressed the need for party faithful to embrace sportsmanship and respect the will of the people.

Erondu Jnr further congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his emergence as the APC presidential candidate, describing it as a strong endorsement of the President’s leadership and performance by both the party and Nigerians.

Highlighting his achievements in the Abia State House of Assembly, the APC candidate pointed to several motions and bills he has sponsored, including a 2023 motion calling for the suspension of electricity tariff hikes.

He noted that the motion, which received unanimous support from lawmakers and was subsequently forwarded to the National Assembly, contributed to the suspension of the tariff increase for one year.

He added that he has also sponsored three people-oriented bills aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

Erondu Jnr assured the people of Abia South of effective and quality representation if elected into the Senate in 2027, pledging to continue championing policies and programmes that directly impact the lives of the people.
