Orji Kalu Rallies APC Structure, Declares Support for Tinubu’s Re-election, Warns Against Factionalisation
Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has commenced grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on members of his political structures and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to unite behind the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Speaking during a strategic meeting at his country home in Igbere, Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, Kalu brought together members of the OUK Movement, Reality Organisation and other APC stakeholders, stressing that unity within the party was critical to achieving victory in future elections.
The former Abia State governor said the essence of the meeting was to harmonise the various political groups under his leadership, insisting that there was no distinction between the APC, the OUK Movement and the Reality Organisation.
Kalu disclosed plans to extend the consultations to all the 140 electoral wards in the state, saying the mobilisation would be driven from the grassroots rather than on social media.
He declared that his foremost political objective was to ensure President Tinubu wins Abia State in the 2027 presidential election, while also securing victories for APC candidates seeking seats in the National Assembly. According to him, a stronger APC presence in the National Assembly would strengthen the President’s ability to implement his programmes.
The senator urged party faithful to intensify grassroots campaigns, noting that elections are won in communities and villages, not on social media platforms. He said his style of politics has always been people-oriented, adding that public service should be about improving lives rather than personal gain.
Highlighting his stewardship in the Senate, Kalu maintained that his constituency projects and empowerment programmes were funded through legitimate means and reflected his commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
On national politics, Kalu argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges were not unique, noting that many countries across the world were also experiencing economic difficulties. He expressed confidence that the economic reforms being implemented by the Tinubu administration would eventually yield positive results.
The lawmaker further maintained that national unity remained essential for the South-East’s long-term political aspirations, including producing a president of Igbo extraction in the future. He urged the region to work collaboratively with other parts of the country instead of isolating itself politically.
Kalu also cautioned against factionalisation within the APC, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s electoral chances. He charged party leaders at the ward, local government and state levels to accommodate members, manage disagreements effectively and maintain unity.
Reaffirming his confidence in the APC, Kalu said he would personally lead grassroots campaigns for President Tinubu’s re-election, expressing optimism that the party would secure victory in Abia State through sustained mobilisation and a united political structure.
Speaking earlier, former APC governorship aspirant, Mascot Uzor Kalu, called for unity among party members ahead of the 2027 general elections. He urged members not to allow the outcome of the party’s primaries or past grievances to dampen their commitment, stressing that such issues should be regarded as history. Mascot appealed to party faithful to close ranks and work together to ensure the success of all APC candidates in Abia State, regardless of individual interests or previous political differences.
Other speakers, including a former Commissioner in the state, Hon. Chidiebere Uwam, and Hon. Engr. George Anokam, alongside other APC stakeholders, pledged to work tirelessly to secure victory for President Bola Tinubu, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, and other APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
