The Renewed Hope Presidential Media Team has commended the rapid pace of development in Abia State, declaring that Governor Alex Otti’s administration has positioned the state among Nigeria’s leading examples of infrastructural transformation and good governance.

The commendation came during an inspection tour of key Federal and State Government projects across Abia led by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, alongside the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga.

Speaking after touring the projects, Dare described the ongoing infrastructural renewal under Governor Otti as “impressive, restorative and transformational,” noting that the administration’s strategic investments in roads, power and other critical infrastructure have reversed years of neglect and underdevelopment.

He particularly applauded the state’s electrification initiative in Ohafia and the extensive road construction programme, saying the projects reflect a clear commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.

Dare also cited the ongoing Abia Airport project as a shining example of productive collaboration between the Federal Government and Abia State Government, describing the relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Governor Alex Otti as commendable and beneficial to the people.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, alongside the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Otumchere Oti, conducted the delegation round several project sites. They explained that the 67-kilometre Joe Irukwu Way, once impassable, was fully funded and constructed by the state government, significantly improving connectivity for more than 20 communities.

According to them, the road, equipped with end-to-end solar-powered streetlights, links several agrarian and mineral-producing communities to the state capital. They also disclosed that the Otti administration has rehabilitated several federal roads to improve access to previously isolated communities.

The Commissioner for Lands, Mr. Chaka Chukwumerije, highlighted the Federal Housing Authority’s Renewed Hope Housing Estate in Bende as one of the Federal Government’s major interventions aimed at addressing housing needs in the state.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Power and Public Utilities, Mr. Ikechukwu Monday, disclosed that the state government is on the verge of restoring electricity to Ohafia communities that had remained without power for eight years following the vandalism of electricity infrastructure.

He revealed that the government has completed a 20-kilometre, 33KV power line from Ihechiowa in Arochukwu to Ebem, Ohafia, terminating at a newly installed 7.5MVA injection substation. According to him, final installations are underway to restore electricity across Ohafia Local Government Area.

Monday further disclosed that the state government is close to acquiring a majority stake in the Abia operations of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), a move expected to facilitate stable electricity supply to the remaining local government areas outside the Geometric Power coverage.

In his remarks, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, recalled that the Joe Irukwu Way had been abandoned for nearly two decades before Governor Otti assumed office.

He explained that the administration awarded the project to three construction companies simultaneously to accelerate delivery, citing the road’s strategic economic importance.

Ekeoma also described the relationship between President Tinubu and Governor Otti as cordial and people-centred, saying the synergy has enhanced collaboration between both governments and facilitated the execution of several Federal Government projects in the state.

The delegation, comprising editors, senior journalists, media influencers and Federal Government representatives, inspected numerous projects under both President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and Governor Otti’s development programme.

Among the projects visited were the 67-kilometre Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Abiriba–Ohafia Road (Joe Irukwu Way), the Renewed Hope Housing Estate along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road, the 30-kilometre Ozu-Abam–Ndiokereke–Amuvi Road in Arochukwu, the 42-kilometre Ebem–Ohafia Road, the newly constructed Omenuko Bridge, the Renewed Hope Housing Estate at Onu-Inyang in Bende, the Nnenna Oti Multi Bus Terminal in Umuahia, and the four-lane Dr. Uma Ukpai Road, a Federal Government project being executed by the Otti administration.

The inspection tour further underscored the growing collaboration between the Federal and Abia State Governments in delivering critical infrastructure and advancing development across the state.
