The Member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has attributed his emergence as the unopposed Labour Party candidate for the 2027 general election to what he described as his record of effective lawmaking, quality representation, oversight functions and sustained grassroots engagement.

Aguocha made the remarks while speaking during Open Parliament, the flagship public affairs programme of Family Love FM, monitored by Dailytrail news, where he reflected on his stewardship in the National Assembly and outlined his vision for the continued development of his constituency.

According to the federal lawmaker, his unopposed emergence in the party primary was not a mere political endorsement but a demonstration of the confidence reposed in him by party members and constituents who had closely monitored his performance over the past three years.

He disclosed that more than 77,000 Labour Party members participated in the affirmation process, noting that the figure surpassed the total votes he secured during the 2023 general election. He described the turnout as a clear indication that his constituents appreciated his efforts in legislative duties, constituency representation and oversight responsibilities.

Aguocha maintained that his legislative record would ultimately speak for him, stressing that if he had failed to meet the expectations of the people, he would not have been returned unopposed by his party.

The lawmaker also highlighted some of his priorities for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, emphasizing the need for greater political representation. He described Ikwuano/Umuahia as the largest local government area in Abia State in terms of landmass and population, arguing that its size justifies the creation of two state constituencies or additional representation to ensure more effective governance and equitable development.

The federal lawmaker also commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for what he described as visionary and purposeful leadership, adding that the governor’s endorsement further strengthened the confidence of Labour Party members during the primary election.

He described the Labour Party primary as transparent, peaceful and devoid of controversy, contrasting it with what he termed irregularities witnessed in some other political parties during their nomination processes.

Reaffirming his commitment to public service, Aguocha pledged to continue discharging his responsibilities with integrity, dedication and accountability. He assured the people of Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South that he would sustain efforts toward attracting policies, programmes and projects that would improve their welfare and promote the overall development of the constituency.

He expressed optimism that, with the continued support of his constituents, he would build on his legislative achievements and further advance the interests of the people at the National Assembly.
