Onuigbo Scales APC Screening Hurdle for Abia Central Senate Race
A former member of the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo, has successfully scaled through the screening stage of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Abia Central Senatorial primary ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s Senate screening committee cleared Onuigbo alongside other aspirants seeking the APC ticket, confirming his eligibility to participate in the party primaries.
The clearance marks another significant step in Onuigbo’s political journey as supporters across Abia Central continue to rally behind his aspiration to represent the zone at the National Assembly.
Widely regarded as an experienced administrator and legislator, Onuigbo has built a reputation for effective leadership, legislative competence and grassroots engagement over the years. He previously represented Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives where he distinguished himself through impactful representation and people-oriented projects.
During his time in the National Assembly, Onuigbo gained national and international recognition for sponsoring Nigeria’s Climate Change Act, a landmark legislation signed into law in 2021. His contributions to climate governance and sustainable development earned him global recognition among leading climate advocates.
Beyond the legislature, Onuigbo has also served in several strategic positions, including Commissioner for Finance and Commissioner for Lands in Abia State, as well as Special Adviser on Public Affairs to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Political stakeholders in Abia Central believe his wealth of experience, deep understanding of governance and track record of service place him in a strong position to effectively represent the district in the Senate come 2027.
Supporters argue that his exposure in public administration, lawmaking and international engagements would attract greater federal presence, quality representation and developmental opportunities to Abia Central Senatorial Zone.
Many party faithful also see Onuigbo as a bridge-builder with the capacity to unite the district and advance the interests of the people through purposeful legislation and effective advocacy at the red chamber.
With the successful completion of the screening process, attention now shifts to the APC senatorial primaries where Onuigbo is expected to formally seek the party’s mandate for the 2027 Abia Central Senate contest.
