ADC Abia Rebrands for 2027, Emerges United with New Leadership at State Congress

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia State has successfully concluded its State Congress, marking a significant step toward strengthening party unity and leadership.


The congress recorded a large turnout of party faithful, stakeholders, and delegates, and was attended by the Deputy National Chairman, Chief Frederick Onwe, alongside other national and zonal representatives from the South East, South South, and South West regions.


During the congress, party officials confirmed that earlier ward and local government congresses were successfully conducted, paving the way for the state exercise, which was supervised by the State Electoral Committee led by Chief Frederick Onwe and Dr. Maurice Eddeh, ensuring full compliance with all guidelines.


At the end of the exercise, Barrister Kalu Kalu Agu emerged as State Chairman, with Prince Obinna Okey as Deputy State Chairman.


Other elected officials include Mrs Uwaoma Olenwengwa; Mrs Francess Olisa Ogbonnaya as State Publicity Secretary; and Odilamma Florence Onuoha as Woman Leader, among others.


The new executives were elected through a voice vote following a motion moved by a party chieftain, Chief Longman Nwachukwu, and seconded by Chief Uchenna Okogbue.
Prominent delegates including Elder Samuel Njoku, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Hon. Chinyere Ike, Uche Usuawa, Hon. Okey Igwe, Barrister Chijioke Chukwu, Etigwe Uwa Sam, and Hon. Nkem Uzoma Abonta, among many other party stakeholders, were in attendance.


In his remarks, the Deputy National Chairman Onwe expressed satisfaction with the peaceful and transparent conduct of the congress, noting that it complied with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and affirmed that internal disputes had been resolved, describing the ADC in Abia as united and stable.

On recent developments at the national level, Onwe maintained that actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission would not hinder the party’s constitutional activities.


He added that the party had achieved internal peace in the state and was positioning itself strongly for future elections.


In her remarks as well, the newly elected State Publicity Secretary of the Abia ADC, Frances Ogbonnaya reiterated that there is no faction within the ADC and that the party is ready to field candidates for the 2027 elections.


Meanwhile, the newly elected State Chairman speaking after his emergence, assured members of his commitment to promoting peace and strengthening the party moving forward.

Speaking shortly after his emergence, Kalu said the party was determined to win elections in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections. He pledged to unify members and strengthen the party’s structure.
