Deputy Speaker Abia Assembly rolls out bursary awards to 122 students through Ugolee Foundation

Ugolee Peoples Foundation founded by the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and Member representing Umuahia East State Constituency Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie Meregini, popularly called Ugolee has given out bursary awards running into millions of naira to deserving students that cut across ethnic divides in the state Constituency.


Speaking at the event, the Governor of the state Dr. Alex Otti represented by the Chief of Staff Pastor Caleb Ajagba commended the Deputy Speaker for being selfless and putting humanity first by investing in education, stressing that the Otti’s administration will continue to encourage efforts to improve education in the state.

Ajagba called on the beneficiaries to show gratitude for the gesture extended to them by the Deputy Speaker through his foundation by optimally utilizing opportunities presented by the bursary award in bettering their lives and in turn impact positively on society.

On his part, founder of the Ugolee Foundation and the Sponsor of the scholarship, Rt. Hon. Meregini maintained that the importance of education to a responsible society inspired his foundation to embark on the project of giving out bursary to 122 deserving students stressing that the foundation was devoid of any political inclination.

The Deputy Speaker further appreciated efforts by the present administration led by Governor Otti to improve education in the state through massive infrastructure, prompt payment of Teachers and significant budgetary allocation to education.

Responding, Hosanna Samuel Nse from Akwa Ibom State but lives and schools in Umuahia, who spoke on behalf of all the beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Deputy Speaker and his Foundation and further had this to say.

Dailytrailnews reports that the event saw the presence of dignitaries and government functionaries including the Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa represented by Member representing Umuahia Central State Constituency Hon. Anthony Chinasa Abiola, Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency Mathias Umeh, Hon. Commissioner for Education Prof. Uche E. Uche, other House Members, Commissioners, Traditional Rulers amongst other dignitaries.


The bursary scholarship was awarded to 122 students comprising of 36 tertiary students, 45 Secondary students and 41 Primary pupils who got 100,000, 20,000 and 15,000 each respectively.
