The National Working Committee of the Accord Party has officially endorsed Alex Otti for a second term in office, directing its Abia State chapter to support and work for his re-election ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced by the National Chairman of the Accord Party, Christopher Imumolen, during a courtesy visit to the Governor on Wednesday, May 6, alongside members of the party’s National and State Working Committees.

Speaking during the visit, Prof. Imumolen commended Governor Otti’s performance in office, describing his administration as one that has delivered visible development and progress across Abia State.

According to him, good governance should be acknowledged regardless of political affiliations, stressing that opposition parties should not exist solely to criticise governments but should also commend leaders who are performing well.

He said the Accord Party leadership visited the Governor to appreciate his achievements and assure him of the party’s total support ahead of the next election cycle.

Prof. Imumolen stated that the party believes continuity is necessary considering what Governor Otti has achieved so far in office.

He further declared that the Accord Party, from the national leadership down to the Abia State chapter, would align with the Governor’s leadership and work actively towards ensuring his re-election in 2027.

The Accord Party National Chairman also directed the Abia State leadership of the party to mobilise members across the state in support of the Governor’s second-term bid.
Also speaking, the National Secretary of the Accord Party, Mukhtar Abdullah Djungo, announced that the party would not field any governorship candidate in Abia State during the 2027 election.

He said the National Working Committee had instructed the state executive of the party to collaborate with the Labour Party in supporting the current administration for the continued development of Abia State.

In her remarks, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Nenadi Usman, who joined the meeting virtually alongside the party’s National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, praised the Accord Party leadership for what she described as courage in acknowledging good governance.

Senator Usman noted that opposition politics in Nigeria is often characterised by criticism even when governments perform well, adding that the Accord Party’s endorsement of Governor Otti represents a positive shift in the country’s political culture.

She expressed appreciation for the party’s decision not to present a governorship candidate against the Governor in 2027.
Responding, Governor Alex Otti thanked the Accord Party leadership for what he described as their sincerity and understanding of the true essence of politics.

The Governor said governance should primarily focus on the welfare and security of the people, adding that political competition should never overshadow the collective interest of citizens.

He assured the Accord Party leadership that his administration would maintain a strong working relationship with the party at both the state and national levels.

Governor Otti also reiterated that leadership should be judged by its impact on the people, maintaining that public service is ultimately about improving lives and ensuring security.

The meeting was attended by members of the Accord Party National Working Committee, state chairmen from Abia, Imo and other states. Governor Otti was accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, commissioners and senior government appointees.
