Abia HMB Staff embark on indefinite strike over 14 months unpaid salary arrears

Staff of the Hospital Management Board HMB Abia state have protested 14 months arrears of salary reportedly owed them by the state government saying the workers were embarking on indefinite strike as they called on the government to expedite action to defray the arrears.


The protesting staff who gathered at the entrance of the HMB Headquarters along Aba road Umuahia, wielding placards with different inscriptions like “‘Pay us our 14 months salaries before you go”, HMB Staff are dying of hunger” etc. decried what they described as the sorry state most of their members have found themselves some of whom they say can no longer take care of their basic needs in the area of food, clothing, shelter, housing and health.


Speaking during the protest, the Chairperson medical and Health Workers Union Nigeria HMB Branch Comrade Nwokeoma Chidinma Mary said despite government coming with the biometrics late last year, they have refused to pay the workers what is due them.

Comrade Nwokoma maintained that the workers were embarking on indefinite strike from today.

Also speaking, Chairman National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives NANMM Abia State Branch Comrade Maxwell Friday and his Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees AUPCTRE Counterpart Mbanefo Ifeanyi both had this to say.
