Abia Government appoints new VC for ABSU, publishes visitation panel white paper

Abia state government has appointed a new Vice Chancellor in the person of Prof. Ndukwe Okudoh to run the affairs of Abia state University Uturu replacing Prof. Onyemachi Ogbulu.

Governor Alex Otti has also ordered the release of the white paper report compiled by the full visitation panel which was set-up by the state government to review the activities of the state owned university and to make recommendations on reforms to be implemented at the institution.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu at government house after the conclusion of the weeks executive council meeting.

He also announced the appointment of other principal officers for Abia state University Uturu, including Chancellor, pro- chancellor, bursar amongst others.

The information commissioner also told newsmen that the state government and organised labour in Abia have reached an agreement following an extended meeting of the committee set up by government and labour on the implementation of new national minimum wage.

Special Adviser to the governor on media and publicity Ferdinand Ekeoma who was part of the briefing weighed in on the negotiation process between labour and the government.

Following the scheduled local government chairmanship elections to hold on the 2nd of November, workers in the state civil service will close work by 12 noon on Friday the 1st of November while there will be a restriction of movement on the election day.
