Abia Government restates commitment to actualize Modular Refinery in record time
Abia state Government has restated its commitment to ensuring that the Modular Refinery project comes on board as soon as possible.
Recall that a private sector-owned modular refinery is said to be under construction at the Abia Industrial Innovation Park (AIIP) in Owaza, Ukwa West Local Government Area of the State.
Speaking on Family Love FM’s Open Parliament, monitored by dailytrailnews, the Commissioner for Petroleum and Solid Minerals Prof. Joel Ogbonna maintained that the project is on course and is being pursued with all seriousness and commitment by parties concerned.
Fielding questions on the timeline of the project which was initially projected to be before the end of the fourth quarter of 2025, Ogbonna, a professor of Petroleum Gas said with the realities on ground including payment of compensation, social impact assessment which have been done, alongside other due processes to be followed, the project will take more time to reach 100 percent completion.

The Petroleum and Solid Minerals Commissioner further reeled out potential attendant benefits of citing a project as significant as a Modular Refinery on any community describing them as immense.

He noted that with the recent enumeration done by the state Government which led to the discovery of about 100 capped oil wells in the state, the government has decided to float an indigenous Oil Company where the state will have greater percentage equities shares alongside other shareholders.
