Government College Umuahia Class “77” holds grand reunion, to restart award giving system to deserving students
It was indeed a joyous moment for the Old Boys of Government College Umuahia, GCU Class of 77 on Saturday the 6 of January 2024 as the old class mates who left secondary forty something years ago came together to have a reunion to brainstorm on ways to give back to their alma mater as well as address certain pressing issues of the college.
Speaking when members of the class of 77 visited the Principal of GCU Austin Edegbe, the Class captain of the set, Okoye O. commended efforts by the government of Abia state to reclaim lands of the college encroached upon by individuals in what has been described as land grabbing saga by some highly placed individuals.

Okoye noted that part of their findings during the reunion was that the school is pursing strongly the restoration project after years of redundancy adding that there’s been significant improvement and that the Old Boys Class of 77 will consequently revive an award system where deserving student are rewarded for their hard work.

Speaking also, Chairman of the Committee for the reunion, Deacon Iyke Nwoke called on the new management of the school to work hand in hand with the old boys to attract more progress and development for the college.

Deacon Nwoke had earlier called on the principal of the college to do his utmost in preserving the identity of the institution.

Earlier, the principal Mr. Edegbe thanked the class of 77 for giving back to their alma mater, and reeled out the school’s accomplishment so far in the restoration project stressing that the land issue was being addressed in court.

Dailytrailnews reports that the Class Mates earlier in the day had breakfast at the home of one of their own Abarikwu and later reclined for lunch at the Committee Chairman’s place where they were treated to sumptuous meal by their host Deacon Nwoke.
