Abia House of Assembly: We impeached the Speaker due to embezzlement, high-handedness-Uchendu

The Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu has accused RT. Hon. Chinedum Orji of high-handedness, embezzlement of funds and non adherence to number of sittings expected of the legislative arm of government hence the reason for members’ decision to impeach him as the Speaker of the 7th House.


Speaking to Newsmen, Uchendu said 16 members of the House endorsed the impeachment of the Speaker over what he described as abuse of office.


Speaking further he said “he (Chinedum Orji) doesn’t allow the sun to rise from anywhere apart from his side” adding that “he doesn’t allow us to make our own contributions.”

When asked on the constitutionality of their actions as it concerns the venue of the impeachment, the Deputy Speaker defended the decision of the members saying that what the members did was “constitutionally right.”

When reminded that there have been reports of him been impeached alongside others, he described the action as drama and jamboree stressing that a quorum is required to impeach both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Reacting to the impeachment of the Speaker while speaking with Dailytrailnews, the Chief Press Secretary to Rt. Hon. Orji, Jude Ndukwe described as charade the actions of the House Members stressing that they failed in their impeachment plot and have been consequently suspended in a plenary presided over by Rt. Hon. Orji at the hallowed chamber.
