The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Dr. Chima Desmond Anyaso, has signed what he described as the “Bende Prosperity Contract”, a comprehensive blueprint outlining his commitments to the people of the constituency if elected.

Anyaso signed the document at the Uzoakoli Civic Hall, where party stakeholders, community leaders, traditional rulers, clergymen, support groups and other stakeholders gathered to witness the presentation of his development agenda.

The Labour Party candidate said the document was not merely a campaign manifesto but a commitment that should be used by the people to hold him accountable if given the mandate to represent them at the National Assembly.

Speaking at the event, Anyaso criticised what he described as a pattern in which elected representatives allegedly become disconnected from their constituents after assuming office, particularly when they relocate to Abuja.

He questioned what he described as the failure of successive representatives to adequately account for federal projects and public resources deployed to Bende, urging the people to examine the quality, durability and impact of projects executed in their communities.

Anyaso maintained that federal projects were not personal gifts from elected representatives, stressing that such interventions were funded with public resources and should therefore be presented to the people as their rights rather than favours.

He said his proposed representation would focus on attracting quality roads, healthcare facilities, schools and skills-development opportunities for young people, while ensuring that constituents remained informed about the use and impact of public resources.

“I will never stand before you to borrow and claim to be the giver of what is already yours,” he said.

The Labour Party candidate also called on his supporters and community leaders to resist intimidation and remain committed to peaceful participation in the 2027 electoral process.

Anyaso further pledged to respect the political understanding between the two major blocs in Bende—Umunna, representing Bende North, and Ikwuisii, representing Bende South.

He declared that if elected, he would not seek a third term, and at the appropriate time, support a candidate from Bende South to take over the representation, describing leadership as an opportunity to create successors rather than permanently occupy political space.

He urged the people to read, scrutinise and question the Bende Prosperity Contract and, if they gave him their mandate, hold him accountable to every commitment contained in it.

Reacting to the development, Professor Ijeoma Ihikumere, SSA to the Abia State Governor on Environment, who attended as a representative of the state Governor, Dr Alex Otti, said she was at the gathering to witness the signing of the contract by the Labour Party candidate.

Ihikumere expressed confidence in Anyaso’s capacity, saying she had already demonstrated commitment to community development even before occupying public office.

She said she would communicate her impressions of the event to the Governor, expressing the view that Anyaso had the capacity to provide effective representation for Bende.

Also speaking at the event, the Abia State Chairman of the Labour Party, Peter Azubike, described the event as a demonstration of the kind of candidates the party was presenting ahead of the 2027 elections.

Azubike said Anyaso’s clearly defined people-oriented agenda demonstrated a commitment to leadership and accountability, adding that the party was working with its campaign structures at the local and state levels to prosecute its campaign.

He also described Anyaso as someone who had demonstrated leadership qualities even before seeking election to the Green Chamber.

Similarly, the Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Labour Party campaign in Bende, Pastor Okechukwu Dike, said the event reflected what he described as the decision of Bende people to support Anyaso and uphold the constituency’s zoning arrangement.

Dike said Bende was made up of two political blocs—Bende North and Bende South—and maintained that, having completed its turn, the South should support the North to produce the next representative.

He described the signing of the Bende Prosperity Contract as unprecedented in the political history of the constituency, saying it would provide a framework through which Anyaso could be held accountable by the people.

In his sermon at the event, the District Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Umuahia North Jerusalem, Rev. James Ndukwe, spoke on the theme, “Blessed Is the Nation Whose God Is the Lord,” drawing from Psalm 33:12–16 and other biblical passages.

Rev. Ndukwe emphasised the importance of humility in leadership, noting that God had promised to elevate those who remained humble.

He said he had personally observed Dr. Chima Anyaso’s humility at the event, particularly when the Labour Party candidate knelt to receive prayers.
“Any humble man, God promised to elevate. As I walked in and saw him, he knelt down to be prayed for, which shows that he is humble,” he said.

The cleric also referenced Lamentations 3, stressing the importance of God’s mercy, preservation and continued dependence on Him.

In his goodwill message, the Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. DCN Uwabunkonye Bassey, described the Bende Prosperity Contract as a demonstration of Dr. Chima Anyaso’s preparedness to represent the constituency.

“When you see a true leader, you don’t need to grumble. Chima Anyaso has shown that he is a leader. This document has streamlined the leadership of our incoming member of the House of Representatives,” Bassey said.

He pledged to return to his community to promote Dr. Anyaso’s candidacy, while declaring his opposition to electoral malpractice.

“I am going home to tell my people that a true son has come to represent Bende people. I am making it public now that there will be no rigging in Bende,” he declared.

Bassey also expressed confidence in Anyaso’s chances in the 2027 election.

Similarly, a Labour Party chieftain and founder of ECK Foundation, Chief Emeka Kalu, popularly known as ECK, described Dr. Anyaso as a young man with the capacity and commitment to effectively represent the people of Bende.

“I came here as a Bende Town son to support my brother who has shown me capacity, my brother who will give us what we want in Bende,” Kalu said.

He urged voters to prepare for the election and protect their democratic mandate, stressing the importance of safeguarding their votes.

“Everyone should go and sharpen his PVC. Nobody should intimidate you. This vote must be counted,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the President Generals in Umunna, the President General of Item, Prince Okenwa Ichie, described the public signing of the Bende Prosperity Contract as unprecedented in the constituency.

“On behalf of the President Generals of the whole Bende, our own Dr. Chima Anyaso (OFUJI), I want to say that this is the first of its kind in the whole Bende. They do all these abroad,” he said.

Prince Ichie assured Dr. Anyaso of the support of the Umunna bloc, expressing confidence that the Labour Party candidate would enjoy overwhelming support in the 2027 election.

The gathering ended with renewed calls for unity among party members, community stakeholders and supporters, as Anyaso formally presented the Bende Prosperity Contract as the framework for his proposed representation of the constituency from 2027.
