Aguocha Commends National Assembly Over Passage of FMC Ikwuano Bill

The member representing Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Obi Aguocha, has expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the National Assembly following the successful passage of House Bill 1605, which seeks to establish a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ikwuano, Abia State.

Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives, Aguocha thanked the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Senators and members of the House for their support throughout the legislative process, which culminated in the Senate’s concurrence on July 16, 2026.

The lawmaker recalled that the bill was first introduced before the House on July 17, 2024, and subsequently passed through all the required legislative stages before receiving approval from the Senate.

According to him, the successful passage of the bill demonstrates the National Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that improve access to essential public services and drive national development.

Aguocha noted that with the completion of the legislative process in the National Assembly, the bill will now proceed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for presidential assent, in line with constitutional provisions.

If signed into law, the proposed Federal Medical Centre in Ikwuano is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in Abia State and the South-East region by expanding access to quality medical services. The institution is also projected to create employment opportunities, enhance medical education and training, and stimulate economic growth in Ikwuano, Umuahia and surrounding communities.

The federal lawmaker also expressed gratitude to his constituents for their support and confidence throughout the legislative process, assuring them of his continued commitment to sponsoring people-oriented legislation and initiatives that will promote institutional growth and human capital development across Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency.
