APC Abia Rejects Ikonne’s Claim, Insists Erondu Jnr Won Abia South Primary
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Abia State chapter, has reaffirmed the outcome of its Abia South Senatorial District primary election, insisting that Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr remains the duly elected candidate for the 2027 general election.
State Chairman of the party, Chijioke Chukwu, stated this in Umuahia while reacting to claims by one of the aspirants, Prince Paul Ikonne, that the party’s senatorial ticket had been handed over to him.
Chukwu described the reports being circulated by Ikonne and his supporters as unfounded and misleading, warning that such claims were capable of creating confusion among party members and the general public.
He cautioned those involved against spreading misinformation that could generate unnecessary tension, disaffection, and division within the party.
According to him, the primary election was duly conducted on May 18, 2026, across the 65 wards of Abia South Senatorial District in line with the APC constitution and electoral guidelines.
The APC chairman reiterated the party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and discipline, stressing that the outcome of the exercise remains valid and binding.
He called on party members and stakeholders to close ranks and support the party’s candidate in the interest of unity and electoral success ahead of the 2027 general election.
Chukwu noted that the results announced by the Chairman of the National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Prof. Erasmus Cishak, clearly showed that Erondu Jnr emerged winner of the contest.
According to the official results, Erondu Jnr secured 15,982 votes to defeat his closest challengers, Prince Paul Ikonne, who polled 4,322 votes; Hon. Blessing Nwagba, 4,556 votes; and Dr. Nyerere Chinenye Anyim, who scored 4,022 votes.
The party maintained that there has been no alteration to the outcome of the primary and urged members to remain focused on strengthening the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
