Senate Race: Enweremadu Makes Case for Fairness, Flags Isialangwa North Exclusion, Urges APC to Respect Zoning Balance
It was a strong call for equity, fairness, and political justice as a frontline aspirant for the Abia Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rt. Hon. Christopher Enweremadu, urged party leaders to uphold balance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with Dailytrailnews, the former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly emphasized the need for the party to be guided by fairness as it approaches the critical stage of consensus that will determine its flag bearers.
Enweremadu argued that justice demands deliberate consideration for local government areas that have been historically sidelined in the senatorial rotation arrangement since Nigeria’s return to democracy.
He went down memory lane as he explained that Abia Central is traditionally divided into two blocs — Umunneato (comprising Isialangwa North, Isialangwa South, and Osisioma Ngwa) and Ikwuano/Umuahia (made up of Ikwuano, Umuahia North, and Umuahia South). According to him, while the senatorial seat has rotated between these blocs over the years, Isialangwa North remains the only local government yet to produce a senator, a situation he described as clear marginalisation.

The former Speaker insisted that beyond zoning, competence and proven capacity must also play a role, noting that his track record in public service positions him as a credible contender for the seat.
Drawing a parallel with national politics, Enweremadu cautioned against double standards, stressing that those advocating for power rotation at the federal level in support of President Bola Tinubu’s second term bid should not contradict themselves by endorsing injustice at the state level.

He further warned that ignoring equity could trigger political discontent and alienation among party faithful, potentially weakening the APC’s chances in the state.
Enweremadu also decried what he described as desperation among some politicians, urging them to allow a system that once favoured them to benefit others in the spirit of fairness.

As a way forward, he advised the APC leadership in Abia State to establish a transparent and unbiased forum where aspirants can present their credentials, track records, and vision. According to him, such a platform would help douse rising tensions, clarify intentions, and guide the party toward making informed, widely accepted decisions.
