Lawmaker Erondu Jnr Picks APC Nomination Form for Abia South Senate

The lawmaker representing Obingwa-West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Erondu Uchenna Erondu Jnr, has taken a decisive step in his 2027 political ambition by purchasing the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form to contest the Abia South senatorial primaries.

The development comes amid growing momentum around his aspiration, following sustained calls by APC stakeholders and political groups across the Abia South Senatorial District urging him to enter the race.

Erondu Jnr, a former Chairman of Obingwa Local Government Area, recently declared his intention to challenge incumbent Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, who has represented the district in the Senate for almost two decades and is seeking a sixth consecutive term.

As Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service Matters, he has intensified consultations, engaging party executives and stakeholders across Obingwa, Aba North, Aba South, Ukwa East, Ukwa West and Ugwunagbo Local Government Areas to consolidate support for his bid.

Political observers say the purchase of the nomination form marks a shift from consultations to active participation in the race, positioning the lawmaker as a strong contender in the APC primaries.

In recent weeks, some stakeholders within the district have expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as years of ineffective representation, calling for a more proactive and development-driven voice at the National Assembly.

Supporters of Erondu Jnr point to his record in massive grassroots empowerment, particularly in youth and women development, as a key factor driving his growing acceptance.

He has also outlined his vision for the district, which includes facilitating the establishment of a government-owned university and skills acquisition centres aimed at boosting education and economic opportunities in Abia South. A clear departure of what is on ground.
