Just in: Group Calls for Sack of Abia Accountant General Over Alleged Undermining of Government
A civic pressure group, the United Front for a New Abia, has issued a strong call for the immediate removal of Abia State Accountant General, Mrs. Njum Uma-Onyemanam, over allegations of misconduct and actions deemed detrimental to the administration of Alex Otti.
In a statement released Tuesday in Umuahia, the group accused the Accountant General of deepening discontent within government circles and eroding trust among key stakeholders, including civil servants and the media.
The group warned that her alleged actions are creating avoidable tension and painting the government in a negative light before the public.
Quoting the statement, the group said the situation is “gradually positioning the government against the very people it should be working with,” noting that civil servants are aggrieved, the media frustrated, and public confidence steadily declining.
The United Front for a New Abia further alleged that approvals granted by Governor Otti are being stalled at the level of the Accountant General, raising concerns over accountability and effective coordination within the system.
According to the group, such developments are not only troubling but also counterproductive to the smooth running of government operations.
The statement also pointed to what it described as a growing perception of arrogance and lack of accountability within the office of the Accountant General, a trend it warned could damage the credibility of the current administration.
Speaking for the group, Secretary, Chukwudi Ifeanyi, stressed that urgent intervention is necessary to prevent a further breakdown of trust between the government and its stakeholders.
He maintained that the call is not personal but a demand for corrective action, urging the government to demonstrate responsiveness and decisiveness in addressing issues that could undermine its relationship with the people.
The group, however, cautioned that failure to act swiftly may deepen dissatisfaction and complicate the administration’s engagement with the public.
