Resident doctors hold AGM in Abia, commend Ikpeazu over payment of salary arears, call on FG to expedite action on their demands

The Nigerian Association of resident Doctors NARD has commended Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, for paying seven months’ salary arrears to them in one tranche.

This was made known at the end of their Annual General Meeting AGM and Scientific Conference in Umuahia, tagged “Unity AGM” with the theme; “Lasting Strategies for Healthcare Development in Nigeria: A Panacea for preventing Industrial Actions and Brain Drain”

Disclosing the payment of the arrears to newsmen, the President of NARD Dr Orji Emeka Innocent confirmed that members of the association in Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba, received seven months payments each with a promise by the governor to ensure that the remaining outstanding will be paid.

Dr Innocent went further to note that the Doctors expressed displeasure over the condition of their members under different State Governments’ employment in the country.

He called on the federal government to address the acute manpower shortage in most tertiary health care institutions around the country.

Daily trail news reports that the AGM saw the convergence of all the exco members of the association including the Secretary General Dr Chikezie Kelechi, the Publicity and Social Secretary Dr Umur Musa amongst others.
