Abia state governor Dr. Alex Otti has approved the award of a contract for the reconstruction of the iconic Omenuko bridge located at Ozuabam community in Arochukwu local government area.

The landmark bridge has been a source of concern to motorists and indigenes of the community owing to its narrowness allowing for only one vehicle to crossover at a time.

This was disclosed at a press briefing in Government House by the commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu following the conclusion of the weekly state executive council meeting.

Meanwhile, a former chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party in Abia Senator Emma Nwaka has commended Governor Alex Otti for the approval of the reconstruction of the Omenuko bridge stating that the Governor made his day by flagging off the reconstruction of the Bridge.

Nwaka, a former chairman of the main opposition party in the state who recounted the awful experience of his staff sent to Arochukwu during the electioneering, whom he said had their vehicle knocked by an oncoming vehicle because of the narrow and rickety state of the Omenuko bridge, noted that though no life was lost, his own vehicle was written off due to the severity of the collision.

The former PDP state Chairman noted that after that experience he vowed that if he was successful in the election, the Omenuko bridge would be among the first things to fix, as he thanked the governor for addressing the critical infrastructure which he said would have significant impact in the lives and economy of the immediate community, Arochukwu and by extension the entire state.
