An elder Statesman in Abia, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya has warned politicians against working against the Peace In South East Project initiated by the Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon Ben Kalu.

He said the project is complementary, and not antagonistic, to any other Peace process being pursued by either the federal or state governments and therefore deserves the support of all patriotic Nigerians.

Chief Ogbonnaya, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs in Abia State, spoke against the background of rumoured rift between Kalu and South East governors over his Peace project.

According to him, ” I am unequivocally against any such murmuring when we all know that the young man is on the right track with the Peace In South East Project. This is beyond politics, and I caution our people not to politicise it”.

The statesman who recently quit partisan politics expressed disappointment that some people could invent non existent rift among political leaders in the south east because of the Peace Initiative by Kalu.

He noted that the fact that both Abia and Imo state governors among other Igbo leaders personally attended the ceremony was an indication that they supported Kalu.

He said” both Gov Hope Uzodimma and our own Gov Alex Otti are solidly behind the Deputy Speaker in this project. Even Ohanaeze Ndigbo president, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu was not left out. So I don’t know where the phantom rift is emanating from.”

Chief Ogbonnaya blamed fifth columnists and enemies of Ndigbo for stoking the unnecessary fire of competition among the leaders, and warned them to desist from such.

He insisted that all patriotic citizens of Igboland should support the peace project by kalu as it was capable of engendering sustainable peace in the south east.

He also enjoined the Deputy Speaker not to be distracted by those sponsoring the media attacks on him, but focus on ensuring that the project achieves its purpose.
