2027: Mascot Kalu declares for Abia Governorship
The former Chief of Staff to the former Governor of Abia State, Mascot Uzor Kalu has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Abia State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
Uzor Kalu who made the declaration in front of party members in Umuahia on Saturday, promised financial transparency and to fully return Abia government house to Umuahia.
The APC chieftain who is the younger brother to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, said his decision to vie for the Abia governorship seat stemmed from the desire to bring good governance to the people and to bridge the wide gap between the rich and poor people in Abia.
He called for peace and unity in Abia APC, saying that the broom party is endowed with the personalities that will work for the party’s victory.
He stated that he would ensure that Abia State government house would no longer function outside Umuahia the State capital, noting that financial allocations due to Abia local governments would not be tampered with.
Uzor Kalu also said that his party would leverage the popularity and achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the centre to achieve victory.
He further called on APC members to be united and work in one direction.
“I stand for local government autonomy and the welfare of civil servants. Let us build an Abia that works for all and not for some. Our project is anchored on God.
Also speaking, Mrs. Udonma Ezinne, the State Woman Leader of the APC, applauded Kalu’s decision and called for unity within the party. She disclosed that the former APP candidate officially defected to the APC on October 24, emphasising that peace and cooperation were essential for victory in 2027.
A party chieftain, Chief Barrister Ndukwe Peter, described the moment as historic for the APC in Abia, affirming that the party “stands for good governance” and pledging the support of the Reality Organisation for Kalu’s ambition.
Similarly, Barrister Perfect Okorie, former State Secretary of the APC, underscored the need for strategic direction and urged members to rally behind Kalu as the party’s leader and governorship hopeful.
On his part, Mr. Ojisi Iroh Ogbaja of the OUK Movement expressed confidence in the APC’s ability to take charge of Abia’s leadership, urging Kalu to continue engaging the grassroots as the countdown to the 2027 elections begins.
