Abia APC Elects New SWC Ahead of 2027 as Chukwu Emerges State Chairman
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has successfully elected a new State Working Committee (SWC) during a peaceful and well-attended congress held in Umuahia, signaling renewed momentum as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The congress, conducted on Tuesday in the state capital, was presided over by Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Guan, who headed the committee constituted by the party’s National Working Committee. The exercise was observed by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner and the Abia State Commissioner of Police, with participants and stakeholders describing the process as orderly, transparent, and devoid of rancour.
At the end of the proceedings, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu emerged as State Chairman through a consensus arrangement, alongside other members of the SWC and zonal leaders, reflecting what party officials termed a united front within the Abia APC.
Speaking after the congress, Guan praised party leaders and delegates for their cooperation and discipline, noting that the smooth conduct of the exercise demonstrated unity and internal stability. He expressed optimism that the party is strategically positioned to secure victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and win the Abia governorship seat.
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and APC leader in Abia State, Benjamin Kalu, congratulated the newly elected executives and commended stakeholders for fostering renewed cohesion within the party. He urged members to intensify grassroots mobilization efforts to ensure a decisive electoral outing in the next general elections.
In his acceptance speech, the new State Chairman, Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, pledged to strengthen internal unity and broaden the party’s membership base across the 17 local government areas of the state. He assured members that the new leadership would work tirelessly to reposition the APC and win the confidence of Abians ahead of 2027.
