Vice President Shettima commissions Geometric, as Aba becomes first city in Nigeria to generate, consume 24 hrs electricity

The Geometric Power Plant situated at the Osissioma Industrial Estate in Aba Abia state has been commissioned by the Vice President Kashim Shettima.

The Geometric Power Plant under the Aba Integrated Power is a project that was conceived over two decades ago as part of a mix of solutions in tackling the nations lingering Electricity challenges.


During his speech, the Vice president praised the dogged determination of the initiator of the projector Prof. Barth. Nnaji to see that the project comes to fruition after over two decades of setbacks and unforeseen twists and turns.

On his part while speaking, Abia state governor Dr. Alex Otti traced the commencement of the project when he served in the banking sector in facilitating loans to geometric power to cover the Aba ring fenced island in the first of its kind fully private sector funded power project in Nigeria.


He praised the commitment of the geometric integrated power team, the federal government, previous administrations in the state and the host community for their unwavering commitment in seeing to the realisation of the project through to the supply of Gas which is key in the firing of the turbines to generate electricity.

Some who spoke to Dailytrailnews Obeta Lawrence expressed optimism that the plant when fully functional will change the economic fortunes of Aba and the entire Abia state.

The Geometric power plant is a 188megawatts gas fired electricity generating installation set up to supply consistent and affordable energy to nine local governments in Abia under the Aba ring fenced island concession granted by the federal government of Nigeria under former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
