Uzodinma Okpara Endorses Otti, Backs 2027 Re-election Bid
Chief Uzodinma Okpara, son of the late Premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara, has commended Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for adopting a leadership approach reminiscent of his father’s legacy of public service, economic growth and food security.
Okpara made the remarks on Wednesday during a news briefing at his country home in Umuegwu Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, where he declared his total support for the governor’s administration.
A former state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party during the administration of Orji Kalu, Okpara also pledged to support Otti’s re-election in 2027 and called on Abians to rally behind the governor.
“I will campaign for Otti and mobilise as many people as possible to join me,” he said.
He noted that Governor Otti had embarked on an ambitious drive to rebuild critical infrastructure across the state, describing his commitment to Abia’s development as both visible and impactful.
Okpara highlighted achievements in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital development, adding that the reforms were already improving living standards and stimulating business activities.
“Families are enjoying a better quality of life, while businesses are thriving due to improved infrastructure,” he said, adding that the governor was laying a solid foundation for a prosperous Abia.
He stressed the need for sustained support to consolidate ongoing projects and drive further development.
In his remarks, the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North and South Federal Constituency, Chief Obi Aguocha, said Okpara’s endorsement provided him with moral encouragement as a lawmaker.
Aguocha praised Governor Otti’s performance across multiple sectors, describing him as “God-sent to Abia” and a leader with a clear vision to reposition the state.
Other prominent stakeholders from Ohuhu, including the Chairman of Umuahia North LGA, Mr. Smart Ihuoma; the Traditional Ruler of Oriendu Ancient Kingdom, Eze Philip Ajomiwe; and a chartered accountant, Mr. Justin Nwosu, also voiced their unwavering support for the governor.
